If you want to modify broad ALL the words within your keywords, use this excel formula:

=SUBSTITUTE("+"&A2," "," +")

If you are an advanced user of Excel and are a seasoned PPC pro, you realize that you don't want to broad match modify EVERY word within your keywords because it may restrict your impression potential.

Many long-tail keywords contain words like: to, of, as, is, for, the, and, i, a, etc.

Adwords Editor has the ability to perform find & replace on whole words or phrases but it can be time-consuming when you have to perform find and replaces many times.

Therefore, save yourself the time and energy and use this Excel formula the next time you add broad match modified keywords to a PPC account:

=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE("+"&A2," "," +")," +to "," to ")," +is "," is ")," +i "," i ")," +the "," the ")," +and "," and ")

The above formula is but a mere tiny example of the true potential and flexibility of this formula.

How to modify the formula for YOUR needs:

  1. Copy ," +and "," and ") part of the formula and paste it to the end of the formula
  2. Change the word 'and' to the word you DON'T want to have a plus sign in front of it
  3. Add ONE more SUBSTITUTE( to the list of substitutes
  4. Hit Enter, if you did it right, the formula will work.

This formula is very powerful and customizable!  The best part is that it's scalable and repeatable to be used used on any keyword list.
